Watch the skies!

"Keep Watching the Skies! Science Fiction in Hollywood, 1950-1956" is the focus of April's Monday night film series at the Main Library.

All films will be shown at 6 p.m. in the second-floor events room in the Reference & Adult Services Department of the Main Library, 915 Monroe St. This is a joint Huntsville-Madison County Public Library/LearningQUEST event.

This lecture/film series explores the origins of the classic Hollywood adult science fiction movies of the 1950s. David Lilly of the HMCPL staff will lead the discussion of these ground-breaking films. Hollywood used the genre of science fiction to explore the important issues of the day: the Cold War, the threat of nuclear war, and the challenges of science. We’ll show four classic films from the period:

April 22: Them! (1954)  Atomic mutated creatures threaten mankind.

April 29: Forbidden Planet (1956) What is the secret of the Krell? This film was a major influence on Star Trek and Star Wars.
