Microwave Dave heats up the library

The Thursday evening Concerts at the Library series continues with Microwave Dave Gallaher and his classic blues guitar on May 10  at 6 p.m. in the atrium of the Main Library, 915 Monroe St. Admission is free.

Other concerts in the series offer the popular Celtic band SlipJig on May 24, and the annual Dancing with the Library Stars contest over two evenings in June. Sentimental Journey begins the big band showcase on June 7, and the Moondust Big Band takes dancers through the final round on June 21.

TV Time Machine takes action

May's TV Time Machine takes you back to two popular 1970s action shows, Hawaii Five-O and The Rockford Files.

Go back to the islands on May 14 with Hawaii Five-O and its iconic soundtrack. “Book ‘em, Danno!” was the familiar phrase in this long-running police drama set in Hawaii and starring Jack Lord and James MacArthur.

The May 21 program focuses on The Rockford Files. James Garner plays hard-luck detective Jim Rockford in this popular series from the late '70s. Read more about TV Time Machine takes action

Jefferson Bass turns the "Key"

Dr. Bill Brockton is back with a new forensic puzzle to solve – but this time the clues are 2,000 years old and the solution may be earth-shattering. Find out more about his latest adventure, The Inquisitor’s Key, when his creators, journalist Jon Jefferson and forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Bass, the writing team Jefferson Bass, return to Huntsville on Friday, May 11, at 7 p.m. Read more about Jefferson Bass turns the "Key"

Run for fun at Madison Library

The Helen P. Lee Memorial Fun Run will be held on Saturday, June 2, as a kickoff for the Madison Public Library’s Summer Reading activities.

"Titanic" author tells family story

Only a fourth of the families who boarded the "unsinkable" Titanic in 1912 survived. Hear the story of one of them when author Julie Hedgepeth Williams talks about her book, "A Rare Titanic Family," on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Main Library. Happy Birthday, Fort Book!

Show your library love during a Hug the Library party and scavenger hunt on Sunday, May 6. We're celebrating the 25th birthday of the Main Library, "Fort Book," which opened to the public on April 26, 1987.

On May 6, we’re inviting the community to gather outside the library, join hands, circle the building and sing "Happy birthday, Fort Book!" The fun begins at 1:30 p.m. with the big hug. Members of the Huntsville Drum Circle will add their beats to the festivities. Read more about Happy Birthday, Fort Book!

Materiel Command Band returns to library

The Four Star Jazz Orchestra of the U.S. Army Materiel Command Band and the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra will present an evening of big band music and dancing on Thursday, April 26, at 6 p.m. in the atrium of the Main Library.

Hear novelist Robert McCammon talk about his work

Robert R. McCammon, author of Boy’s Life, the Matthew Corbett series of historical thrillers and The Five, will talk about his work and sign books on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Main Library, 915 Monroe St. His visit is sponsored by the Huntsville Literary Association. Super Book Sales!

Three book sales will benefit three of our branch libraries during the weekend of May 11-13.

The Bessie K. Russell Friends of the Library organization will offer books, magazines and CDs for sale on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the library, 3011-C Sparkman Drive. Happy Easter! Library is closed
