Show your library love during a Hug the Library party and scavenger hunt on Sunday, May 6. We're celebrating the 25th birthday of the Main Library, "Fort Book," which opened to the public on April 26, 1987.
On May 6, we’re inviting the community to gather outside the library, join hands, circle the building and sing "Happy birthday, Fort Book!" The fun begins at 1:30 p.m. with the big hug. The Four Star Jazz Orchestra of the U.S. Army Materiel Command Band and the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra will present an evening of big band music and dancing on Thursday, April 26, at 6 p.m. in the atrium of the Main Library.
Robert R. McCammon, author of Boy’s Life, the Matthew Corbett series of historical thrillers and The Five, will talk about his work and sign books on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Main Library, 915 Monroe St. His visit is sponsored by the Huntsville Literary Association. Three book sales will benefit three of our branch libraries during the weekend of May 11-13.
The Bessie K. Russell Friends of the Library organization will offer books, magazines and CDs for sale on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the library, 3011-C Sparkman Drive. The Bailey Cove, Madison, Main and Monrovia branches of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library are supporting Free2Teach, a charitable organization dedicated to providing FREE classroom supplies to the teachers in our community.
Free2Teach needs seven core items -- pencils, pens, crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, copy paper, and loose-leaf paper -- along with other basic classroom supplies, such as construction paper, notebooks, rulers, scissors, highlighters, books, and backpacks. Read more about Support Free2Teach
