Day of Action for reading

The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is partnering with United Way of Madison County for the Day of Action Summer Reading Carnival on Tuesday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hazel Green Elementary, Horizon Elementary, and Morris Elementary. Read more about Day of Action for reading

Open House at Main

We will celebrate National Library Week with an open house at the Main Library, 915 Monroe St., on Wednesday, April 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. The dedication ceremony for the new Family Computing Center on the second floor will be held at 2 p.m.

Elementary, dear patrons

We’ve read and discussed The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes throughout the month of April. Join us today, April 30, for the final programs in Community Read 2013: the film Murder by Decree from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Main Library, and Sherlockian Shirts Craft for teens at 6 p.m. at the Madison Library. Vive le Livre 2013: Rick Bragg

Rick Bragg returns to Huntsville on Thursday, September 12, for the 2013 edition of Vive le Livre, the Huntsville Library Foundation’s fundraiser to benefit the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Thurber Arts Center auditorium on the Randolph School campus, 4915 Garth Road. Tickets for Rick’s talk as well as a book-signing and dessert reception start at $75. Read more about Vive le Livre 2013: Rick Bragg

Dr. Seuss Craftacular Day!

Celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss on Friday, March 1, at the Main Library with Seuss-themed crafts and movies from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lynne Berry of the Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County presents "Charitable Giving with Impact and Tax Advantage" at the second Hertha Heller Forum on Sunday, February 24, at 2 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium.

Good deals on good reads

The Gurley Public Library will hold a book sale on Friday, February 8, from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, February 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items will be half price: hardback books and trade paperbacks for 50 cents each, small paperbacks for 25 cents and children’s books for a dime. The library is located at 225 Walker St. in Gurley. Call 256-776-2102 for more details. Read more about Good deals on good reads
