Good deals on good reads

The Gurley Public Library will hold a book sale on Friday, February 8, from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, February 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items will be half price: hardback books and trade paperbacks for 50 cents each, small paperbacks for 25 cents and children’s books for a dime. The library is located at 225 Walker St. in Gurley. Call 256-776-2102 for more details. Read more about Good deals on good reads

Bailey Cove book sale

The Bailey Cove Friends of the Library will hold a book sale on Saturday, January 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, January 13, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Bailey Cove Public Library, 1409 Weatherly Plaza.

TV Time Machine offers police dramas

TV Time Machine takes you back to the 1960s and '70s on Monday, January 14, at 6 p.m. at the Main Library.

Meet Abraham Lincoln

Meet President Abraham Lincoln -- in the person of Lincoln presenter John Voehl -- on Tuesday, December 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the atrium of the main Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. Admission is free.

Learn what life was like in the White House of the 1860s, including Christmas celebrations. When he was researching his role as Lincoln, Voehl said he discovered that our modern image of Santa Claus owes much to a drawing Lincoln commissioned from artist Thomas Nast of Santa visiting Union soldiers. December book sales

Two branch libraries will hold book sales during December: The Bessie K. Russell Library's event is set for December 7-14, and the Friends of the Library at the Tillman D. Hill Library in Hazel Green will hold a sale on December 7-15.

Celebrate the holidays with big bands

Enjoy the festive sounds of two great big bands during the Main Library's annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The U.S. Army’s Four Star Jazz Orchestra and the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra will unite again for the evening in the atrium of the Main Library, 915 Monroe St. There will be music, singing, and dancing. Trick or treat at the library

The main Huntsville-Madison County Public Library will host a Spooktacular Halloween Celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon.

All the public services desks will be decorated for Halloween, and children will be invited to go from desk to desk to “trick or treat.” In the morning the Youth Services department will also host some not-too-spooky Halloween stories, fun and games. In the afternoon the Youth Services department will host crafts and a movie, “Halloweentown.” Read more about Trick or treat at the library

Creepy Critters live animal show

See spiders, cockroaches, snakes and more at the Creepy Critters live animal show at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 27. The program will be held at the main library, 915 Monroe St., at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. at the Bailey Cove Branch Library, 1409 Weatherly Plaza S.E.
