Self-Publishing 101 with Linda Winstead Jones

Learn the nitty-gritty of self-publishing at the next Write Right Lunch & Learn program on Monday, May 12, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Main Library.

Linda Winstead Jones is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of 70 romance novels and novellas. After twenty years in the publishing business, she's both traditionally published and self-published -- what's called a "hybrid" author. In Self-Publishing 101, she will talk about the hurdles and possibilities of this growing trend.

Main concert series moves to Tuesdays

Jazz, blues, dancing to big band tunes, and more return to the Atrium of the Main Library downtown for spring and summer 2014. But this year the music plays on Tuesday, not Thursday evenings.

 The day of the week is the only change. The concerts still begin at 6 p.m., and they’re still free.

Favorites from Hitchcock

Lifeboat, starring Tallulah Bankhead concludes our "Favorite Hitchcock Film" series on Monday, June 2, at 6 p.m. at the Main Library.

Library staff and friends pick and introduce their favorite movie from the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. The film series "My Favorite Hitchcock Film Is…" runs Mondays at 6 p.m. in the second-floor Events Room at the Main Library downtown.

May 5 – Rear Window (1954), starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. An injured photographer, eavesdropping on his neighbors, discovers a possible murder. Read more about Favorites from Hitchcock

Tuesday Evening Concerts

Our popular Thursday night concert series has moved to Tuesdays. Famed and acclaimed local bluesman Microwave Dave plays the next concert on Tuesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. in the Atrium of the Main Library downtown.

Here's the 2014 schedule for Tuesday Evening Concerts @ the Library:

April 29 -- Twickenham Jazz & Swing -- Concert cancelled due to threat of severe weather. The performance will be rescheduled later in the season.

Get the most out of Koha

Koha has many features designed to enhance your online library experience. You can learn more about the library's new online catalog system on Wednesday, May 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Main Library.

The Koha for Patrons class will be held in the Computer Training Center on the second floor of the Main Library downtown.

Volunteer with us this summer

Teens can gain valuable work experience and have fun doing it this summer at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. Apply to volunteer at one of our branches.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. At least 14 years old.
2. Must have parent/guardian’s permission.
3. Must have a genuine desire to volunteer (independent of parental consent and wishes).

Walk with Showers Library

The Showers Center Library will hold the 4th Annual Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, April 12, starting at 8 a.m. on the ground of the Richard Showers Recreation Center. This event is open to the public, and it's a great way to get some exercise.
