Meet the Author: Dr. Sonnie Hereford

Huntsville Civil Rights activist Dr. Sonnie Hereford discusses his memoir, Beside the Troubled Waters on Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at the Main Library.

Based on interviews conducted by historian Jack Ellis, the account spans much of Dr. Hereford’s life, from childhood to medical school, to his participation in the Huntsville Civil Rights movement, and after the end of segregation.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.

How to Do Things: Yoga

Health Forum: Hearing Loss

Dr. William McFeely of North Alabama Ear, Nose, and Throat Associates talks about hearing loss on Tuesday, May 28, at 11 a.m. at the Main Library.

How to Do Things: Geocaching

Have you seen strangers investigating shrubbery, rocks, or lamp posts? Have you found a strange item in the woods?

Learn the basics of the Global Positioning System and the hi-tech game/sport/hobby of geocaching.

Use of individual GPS receivers will not be covered, but there will be some practice time.  Everyone is encouraged to bring a handheld GPS unit; there will be a short practice run after class. Please become familiar with your GPS ahead of time.

Ever have a craving to go somewhere dark and spooky?

Larry Foreman talks about caves and caving for beginners and experienced cavers alike on Tuesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Learn the basics of preserving the cave environment and making your caving visits safe and enjoyable.

Larry is a Responsible National Speleological Society (NSS) Caver with the NSS Huntsville Grotto.
