Dr. Jennifer Garlen will present “Returns to Pemberley: Revisiting Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.” Her talk will cover the wide range of sequels to and revisions of Jane Austen's classic courtship novel, Pride and Prejudice. Modern writers and filmmakers have remade this tale of comedy and romance to reflect the ways in which love has and hasn't changed since the Regency Period. Why do we keep returning to Pemberley? Courtship rituals, class, family relations, Mr. Darcy, anyone? Dr. Garlen’s presentation at the Library’s English Authors Tea in January was a rousing success, so this Forum will give her fans another chance to enjoy the melding of English literature with a bit of pop culture.
