The Thursday evening Concerts at the Library series continues with Microwave Dave Gallaher and his classic blues guitar on May 10 at 6 p.m. in the atrium of the Main Library, 915 Monroe St. Admission is free.
Other concerts in the series offer the popular Celtic band SlipJig on May 24, and the annual Dancing with the Library Stars contest over two evenings in June. Sentimental Journey begins the big band showcase on June 7, and the Moondust Big Band takes dancers through the final round on June 21.
Dennis Boggs returns to the Main Library on Tuesday, May 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., to kick off our American Library Association exhibit, "Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War."
A Lincoln presenter from Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Boggs travels from coast to coast presenting President Lincoln for schools, colleges, universities, and libraries. His credits include documentaries for the History Channel, “Being Lincoln” and “Looking for Lincoln.” He has also been featured on several PBS programs. Read more about Meet Mr. Lincoln
This program, appropriate for all ages, features a re-enactment of famous abolitionist Harriet Tubman by local actor, Renee Mobley. Renee’s beautiful and inspired portrayal of Harriet Tubman was very popular in 2011 and we are so glad she is back for 2012! At the end of the performance she hosts a question and answer session where children and their families can ask questions about Harriet Tubman, history, and the civil rights movement.
