Small Business Lunch & Learn: "The Craft of Writing for Small Businesses"

Monday, December 3

12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m.

Main Library, 915 Monroe Street

Second Floor Events Room

Speaker: Dr. Sandra Shattuck

More than ever, small businesses represent themselves through writing: business plans, newsletters, email, website copy, Facebook entries, LinkedIn profiles, Twitter, and brochures. Even texting represents your writing skills.

This workshop focuses on a few of those crucial areas of writing. We’ll discuss genre  (Do you use the same copy for your website and your newsletter?), audience (How does your audience change from medium to medium?), style (Is writing a chore or a creative challenge?), and mechanics (What are the twenty peskiest grammatical and punctuation errors we’re likely to overlook?) to address the challenges and joys of writing for your small business.

Dr. Sandra Shattuck has over twenty years’ experience teaching writing and literature at the college level and has worked with the National Writing Project.

Bring a sack lunch. Drinks will be provided.
